Welcome to the 2024-25 year at TKS, everyone!
I have taught the second grade for seven years at Tokyo Korean School. I have also taught grade one for eight years. My first two years at TKS were in grade two. I still recall the wonderful boys and girls who are now in university studying medicine, education and architecture to name a few who have been kind enough to stay in touch.
I hope I positively influenced their lives and they have in turn touched my life with pride and appreciation.
I started the websites in grade two and will once again resume overseeing their development.
I am happy to be working with the always positive, Ms. Mandy Harris in 2-2 and that other amazing Canadian, Mr. Metrick coming down from a long stint in grade three to help improve our grade in 2-3. Both are excellent teachers and I would be happy to have my own children under their guidance. We will be working hard to see new content coming to grade two.
I originally came from Canada. I entered the University of Alberta on a wrestling scholarship, which was good since my family did not have the money to pay for my education.
I had not started my education with the intention of being a teacher. I did however have an ability to connect with students and I slowly realized that teaching was something I might enjoy. I started as a PE, outdoor education and English teacher in junior high school, in Canada. A few of the things I enjoyed were coaching a high school girls wrestling team to win the national championships as well as teaching ballroom dance.
I can honestly say that I was sincerely frightened of teaching grade two when I came to TKS over 15 years ago. I soon realized I had stumbled into the best job of my life and I have slowly improved to become what I hope is a fully prepared teacher for TKS.
I look forward to working with you and your child this year. I cannot stress that working with your child is the key to their success. You can always help. They need your support and a schedule to balance learning three different languages, reading and writing systems. They cannot do this on their own. They need your and my guidance. We are the two wheels on the bicycle of their success in elementary school, which in turn, helps them on their path through education and life.
I look forward to working together this year.
Sincerely,
Mr. Bacon
